Description
Sulfuric acid or sometimes called oil of vitriol or hydrogen sulfate battery acid is an oily, colorless, corrosive liquid and is one of the most highly produced chemicals. It has a wide range of uses and is involved in the production of nearly all manufactured goods. Mostly used in the production of phosphate fertilisers, its high production volume is an approximate indication of its general industrial applications. Used in the manufacturing of chemicals like hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, sulfate salts, synthetic detergents, dyes and pigments, explosives, drugs, other acids, parchment paper, glue and wood preservatives. It can also be used to purify petroleum and other refinery products. One of its most familiar applications is in the production of batteries for motor vehicles.
