Phosphorite, phosphate rock or rock phosphate is a sedimentary rock that contains high amounts of phosphate minerals. Found in various deposits throughout the world, it can be found in three main sedimentary rocks: Pristine, condensed and allochthonous. It is generally used in the fertiliser industry as a source for phosphates and other fertiliser constituents like calcium carbonate and iron oxide.
